Ernest J. Grant, PhD, RN, FAAN, is an internationally recognized leader whose renowned career has transformed burn care and prevention, health policy, and equity.

He is a trusted voice and colossal champion for the profession, especially during times of national crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and aftermath of 9/11. Through his clinical expertise, advocacy, and global engagement, Dr. Grant prepared medical and nursing personnel to manage complex, high acuity burn injuries. His training work took on heightened urgency following 9/11 and during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, where combat-related burn casualties demanded an elevated standard of care. He is the immediate past president of the American Nurses Association and the first male to lead the organization. Dr. Grant currently serves as an Associate Professor and the Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Duke University School of Nursing. Dr. Grant was inducted into the Academy in 2011.
