Eileen Yam, PhD, MPH, is managing director of science and society research at Pew Research Center. She oversees the Center’s efforts to produce data and insights that inform discussions and debate about science issues shaping society and our lives. This portfolio includes public opinion research on trust in science, AI, climate change, and health and well-being. Prior to joining the Center, she spent two decades conducting global social science and public health research in more than 20 countries with the Population Council, International Center for Research on Women, Abt Associates, and Mathematica. Previously, she was a health writer for A. Magazine: Inside Asian America, a researcher for National Geographic Magazine, and content designer for Carrot Fertility. Her research experience spans public opinion surveys, health product introduction research, program evaluation, behavioral surveillance, user experience (UX) research, and news content analysis, with a focus on gender, sexual and reproductive health, and youth. Her research has been published in consumer media and scientific journals alike, including Lancet Global Health, Journal of Health Communication, and Journal of Adolescent Health. She has served as a review editor for Frontiers in Reproductive Health, and as a World Health Organization research reviewer. She holds a doctorate from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor’s degree from Yale University.
