Diane Santa Maria, DrPH, MSN, RN, ACRN, PHNA-BC, FSAHM, FAAN, is Dean and Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Cizik School of Nursing, the Jane and Robert Cizik Distinguished Chair, and the Huffington Foundation Endowed Chair in Nursing Education Leadership. She is a co-investigator on the Texas Developmental CFAR (TX D-CFAR), where she serves as Director of the Developmental Core and co-Director of the Substance Use Scientific Working Group. Further, she is a Steering Committee member of the Inter-CFAR Substance Use Research Committee (I-SURC) and a member of the NIH Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council. With funding from the NIH and several foundations, Dr. Santa Maria has developed and conducted testing on multi-level interventions using nurse-led case management, mobile technology, real-time intervention delivery, and qualitative and quantitative methods primarily in HIV and substance use. She is currently serving as PI on two NIH-funded studies. Her R01 is a randomized controlled trial testing the efficacy of a just-in-time adaptive HIV prevention intervention (MY-RIDE) for youth experiencing homelessness. The other is an R34 to develop and test an intervention to increase HIV and substance use prevention among youth and young adults after experiencing a sexual assault. Her work has helped shape policies in Texas to better support youth aging out of the foster care system as part of her efforts to end youth homelessness.
