Mercedes Wells is the Founder and Director of Luv to Love, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing maternal health, birth equity, and respectful maternity care. Her advocacy was born from lived experience after being dismissed while in active labor and giving birth to her daughter on the side of the road just minutes after being discharged from the hospital. Rather than allowing that experience to define her, Mercedes transformed it into a national mission to ensure that every mother is heard, respected, and receives safe, equitable care.


Today, Mrs. Wells partners with policymakers and community organizations to improve maternal health outcomes through education, advocacy, and systems change. Through Luv to Love, she developed initiatives, including the Safe Birth & Discharge Equity Program and the Listen to the Mother™ tool, which empower healthcare professionals to strengthen communication, recognize maternal warning signs, and elevate patient voices.
A sought-after keynote speaker and lived-experience advisor, Mrs. Wells has shared her story and expertise at conferences, panel discussions, and healthcare events across the country. Her work continues to influence conversations around patient safety, accountability, and maternal health policy while inspiring meaningful action toward eliminating preventable maternal harm.


Mrs. Wells is also the author of the forthcoming book I Should Have Been Believed, releasing early September, where she shares her powerful journey of faith, resilience, and purpose. Through every platform, she remains committed to ensuring that no mother has to fight to be believed and that every family experiences dignity, compassion, and safe care.
