Dr. Aisha K. Brooks is a public health nurse strategist and the Founder and CEO of VitalVoice Nursing. She has spent over 30 years advancing equity, strengthening public health systems, and helping nurses lead where change is most needed, with a career spanning clinical care, policy, workforce development, and emergency response.
Dr. Brooks previously served at the rank of Rear Admiral as the 12th Chief Nurse Officer of the U.S. Public Health Service, where she shaped national health policy and championed nursing at the highest levels of the federal government.
She currently serves on the American Academy of Nursing's National Advisory Council for the Institute for Nursing Leadership and as Lead Guest Editor for a Journal of Nursing Management special issue on public health nursing leadership. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing, with honors including the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award and the Surgeon General's Exemplary Service Medal. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the I AM ME Project Inc, a nonprofit building leadership and life skills in middle and high school girls.
Dr. Brooks holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University, a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing from Hampton University. Through VitalVoice Nursing and her Fortitude Framework™, she equips health leaders, especially those historically overlooked, to remain Unapologetically Grounded, Strategically Aligned, and Ethically Present in complex systems.
