Zainab Toteh Osakwe, Associate Professor at Adelphi University College of Nursing & Public Health, is a community-engaged researcher dedicated to translating research into home care practice, ensuring that frontline home health care nurses have access to evidence-based knowledge. Her research focuses on the nursing workforce's role in improving outcomes for older adults receiving home care and their family caregivers. She has held several leadership positions in healthcare, including Director of Home Health Care and Nurse Administrator in hospital settings. In 2022, she received funding for the Healthcare System Scholar award from the NIA IMPACT Collaboratory, which supports pragmatic trials for individuals living with dementia. Her work has also been funded by the National Institute on Aging to examine nurse practitioner teams in delivering home-based primary care to people living with dementia. Her work further explores academic-clinical partnerships aimed at strengthening undergraduate nursing education and advancing nurse faculty mentorship. Dr. Osakwe’s publications have expanded understanding of the predictive value of OASIS assessment items such as the “Surprise Question” in linking clinician prognosis with hospice use and mortality. She recently served on the Technical Expert Panel for Home Health Value-Based Purchasing Model for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for TruMerit. Dr. Osakwe holds a PhD from Columbia University, an MSN from Rutgers University, and a BSN from Adelphi University.
