Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University
Xiuni Gan serves as Chairman of the Emergency Care Specialty Committee of the Chinese Nursing Association and Academic Director of Nursing at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. With over 40 years of experience, Professor Gan has been dedicated to advancing acute and critical care nursing. Her research addresses critical gaps in delirium management for critically ill patients and enhances care quality. She and her team adapted a disease-specific case management model and developed a standardized clinical pathway for risk prediction, real-time assessment, patient profiling, counseling, and follow-up. This framework has significantly improved patient outcomes and streamlined care delivery. Her most recent impactful study on bundle care strategies for critically ill patients led to the development of Chongqing’s first specialized disease management information system. Additionally, she authored China’s first emergency specialized nurse training textbook, spearheaded the formulation of national nursing guidelines and standards, and established 40 specialized nurse training bases in Western China. Professor Gan earned her BSN and MS from Chongqing Medical University and visited Michigan State University as a Visiting Scholar in 2008. In 2023, she was honored with the 49th Florence Nightingale Medal from the International Committee of the Red Cross.
