Wendy Dusenbury is a neurovascular nurse practitioner at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix and an Assistant Professor, Clinical Scholar, Neurology in the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona. Dr. Dusenbury is an internationally recognized neurovascular nurse practitioner and thought leader whose groundbreaking contributions have transformed acute stroke care, advanced health equity, and shaped national policy. She has pioneered innovative nurse-led practice models, including one of the world’s first advanced imaging Mobile Stroke Units and an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner-led inpatient stroke telemedicine service managing over 1,200 underserved patients annually. Her scalable models now guide similar programs across the U.S. and globally. Her expertise in stroke systems development is evident in her leadership with The Joint Commission and as Stroke Program Manager for the Kansas Clinical Improvement Collaborative. She has first and co-authored three American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Scientific Statements, each driving change in practice and policy. Her impact extends through her service as Past President of the Association of Neurovascular Clinicians and inaugural Chair of the Neurovascular Clinicians Certification Corporation. Dr. Dusenbury received her BSN from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, MSN from Wichita State University, DNP from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and PhD from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She completed a post-graduate neurovascular fellowship through the NETSMART program.
