Tony Umadhay

Barry University School of Nursing

Tony Umadhay is Professor and former Dean at Barry University's School of Nursing, a minority and Hispanic-serving institution in South Florida. A transformational academic leader, he has expanded doctoral nursing programs, created seamless academic pathways from clinical practice to research and leadership, and developed global service-learning initiatives that prepare nurses to lead in diverse and complex care environments. Dr. Umadhay has secured over $2 million in funding to diversify the nursing workforce and increase access for underrepresented students. He collaborated on writing a policy paper that influenced the passage of Florida Senate Bill 2524, "Linking Industry to Nursing Education" (LINE) Fund. This program has generated over $55 million, strengthening Florida's nursing workforce pipeline. His leadership in the Florida Association of Colleges of Nursing and the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthesiology demonstrates his strategic influence in policy, advocacy, and healthcare workforce sustainability. Internationally, Dr. Umadhay contributed to developing a sustainable anesthesia training program for rural nurses in the Philippines; an innovative, scalable model for addressing global health equity in underserved regions. Dr. Umadhay earned his PhD in Nursing from Barry University, MSN in Nurse Anesthesiology from Florida International University, and BSN from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines.
