Therese Matthews is an Association Professor and the Cordinator of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program. She teaches advanced psychiatric mental health nursing care for children and adolescents. In clinical practice, Dr. Mathews serves children with developmental and behavioral disorders at the Nebraska Medicine Child and Adolescent Psychiatry clinic. Her major nursing contributions include increasing access to care for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders and other vulnerable populations with mental health disorders. Dr. Mathews’ research and grants have focused on increasing a) the behavioral health workforce, b) integrated behavioral health care in primary care settings, and c) increasing behavioral health screening in primary care practices. She participates in behavioral consultation for primary care providers and is trained as dually certified Advanced Practice Pediatric Primary Care (PPCNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), and a Licensed Psychologist (LP). Dr. Mathews holds a PhD from the University of Kansas.
