Tammy Eaton

Assistant Professor and Associate Investigator

University of Michigan and VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System

Tammy Eaton is an Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine at the University of Michigan. She is also an Associate Investigator at the Center for Clinical Management Research in the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System. As a critical care and palliative care nurse practitioner and health services researcher, Dr. Eaton leads nationally and internationally recognized research efforts to improve recovery for survivors of critical illness and their families. Her work focuses on high-value, interdisciplinary care strategies and scalable, practice-based innovations. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and holds elected leadership roles in the American Thoracic Society. As President of the Critical and Acute Illness Recovery Organization (CAIRO), she leads a global network spanning 50+ healthcare systems across six countries. In recognition of her work, she received the 2023 ATS Emerging Career Award and was elected a Fellow of the ACCM in 2024. Dr. Eaton received her Diploma in Nursing from Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA, her BSN and MSN from Carlow University, and her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in the National Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Michigan.
