Sheila Alexander is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Acute & Tertiary Care at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. She is a highly accomplished researcher recognized internationally for her work to uncover genetic, epigenetic, and inflammatory changes that influence outcomes in critically ill individuals, particularly those recovering from aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, and delirium in in intensive care units. Her research and clinical expertise make her a highly sought after collaborator on scientific projects, sponsor for research trainees, and contributor to clinical care guidelines for critically ill patients and neurologic populations. She is also known for her strong leadership in professional organizations including serving as president of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics, Chair of Discovery The Critical Care Research Network, and her substantial service for the Society of Critical Care Medicine where she is currently on the Council forging the next steps for the society. Dr. Alexander earned her BSN and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh and was a National Institute of Nursing Research Summer Genetics Institute Fellow.
