Assistant Professor

University of Colorado, College of Nursing

Sean M. Reed is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado College of Nursing. Dr. Reed's sustained program of scholarship advances both palliative care and aging research and nursing praxis development. His funded research utilizes large datasets to understand nurse-led care models, while his knowledge synthesis work intersects with a recent TSNRP grant for combat palliative care. His theoretical contributions encompass developing unitary caring frameworks for healing and touch at end-of-life while producing scholarly works that advance nursing knowledge. His impact extends through developing innovative care delivery models adopted nationally and policy advocacy that expanded hospice eligibility and established pediatric palliative care coverage across multiple states. His unitary caring framework for palliative care has been adopted internationally as benchmarked quality care standards, while his acuity classification tool has been implemented through formal research collaborations in the Middle East, culminating in his Fulbright Scholar selection for cross-cultural adaptation research in Romania. As past President of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists and current Editorial Board member for the Journal of Hospice & Palliative Nursing, his leadership reflects peer recognition of his scholarly impact. Dr. Reed earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Colorado, College of Nursing.
