Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia
Sarah Giron serves as Program Director for the Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia, overseeing the education and clinical training of student nurse anesthetists and anesthesia technologist learners. A committed CRNA educator since 2005, she has contributed significantly to the art of anesthesia, including NIH-funded investigations exploring neuroimmune inflammation in chronic pain. Her current focus centers on advancing the nurse anesthesia profession, notably drawing on previous involvement in high-impact research such as the Phase 3 clinical trials evaluating Sugammadex for neuromuscular blockade reversal. Dr. Giron has demonstrated leadership at both the state and national levels. She served on the Board of Directors for the California Association of Nurse Anesthetists, contributing to the successful 2009 opt-out designation for CRNAs in California (to not require physician supervision). Nationally, she has played a pivotal role in shaping professional standards, including leading the NBCRNA development of the Maintaining Anesthesia Certification Program and collaborating with American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians to design an online curriculum to certify Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians through the Practical Experience Pathway. She holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of San Diego, along with BS and MS degrees in Nursing and Nurse Anesthesia from Columbia University, and a BS in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UC San Diego.
