Miaoxia Chen is the Director of the Nursing Teaching and Research Office at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. Professor Chen has been instrumental in advancing specialized nursing services. As Director of the Nursing Department, she spearheaded reforms across more than 20 specialty areas, including IV therapy, clinical nutrition, mental health, rehabilitation nursing, and dysphagia care. Her initiatives encompassed comprehensive improvements from revamping training systems to innovating clinical techniques and care delivery models. Professor Chen has led numerous research projects on the screening and intervention of swallowing disorders in elderly patients. By introducing and improving screening tools, developing rehabilitation devices and methods, and innovatively designing a nurse-led, multidisciplinary graded intervention model integrating medical care, nursing, and rehabilitation, she has markedly improved the quality of life for elderly patients. Additionally, she served as Consultant for the Swallowing Disorders Branch of the Guangdong Nurses Association. Professor Chen has promoted nursing collaboration alliances across different healthcare institutions, using these alliances as platforms for professional training and nursing consultations, ensuring high-quality, standardized care for swallowing disorder patients in grassroots and community settings. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nursing from Sun Yat-sen University.
