Lisa Sundean is a nurse academician, scientist, and board governance leader. A nationally recognized nurse board governance leader and scholar, she is advancing the science of nurse governance leadership. Her board leadership outcomes impact healthcare quality and safety, community health and equity, data-informed state nursing workforce development policies, and preparation of future nurse leaders through research, scholarship, mentorship, and coaching. Dr. Sundean developed the foundational body of science and scholarship for nurse board governance leadership cited across disciplines and internationally. She led groundbreaking research examining the impact of nurses on boards from the perspectives of non-nurse board leaders, led development of evidence-based research priorities to advance nurse governance leadership science operationalized through a research consortium for collective impact with international implications. Dr. Sundean’s policy expertise led to data informed actions supporting nursing workforce development, education, faculty development, and modernized nurse licensure policy implementation. Dr. Sundean actively elevates the strategic voices of nurses to improve health through board governance leadership, policy expertise, and collaboration. She earned a BSN from Western Connecticut State University, MSN/MHA from the University of Phoenix, and PhD from the University of Connecticut.
