McLelland Professor & Associate Professor of Nursing
University of Michigan School of Nursing
Lenette M. Jones is the inaugural McLelland Professor of Nursing and an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing. Dr. Jones’ research addresses persistent health inequities affecting Black women with hypertension using neuro-biological interventions, psychological self-management strategies, and innovative digital solutions. As an NIH-funded researcher and a Betty Irene Moore Scholar, Dr. Jones leads multiple initiatives to increase awareness of the need for health equity, in general, and specific to blood pressure control. Her recent findings indicate that sharing information with peers is a significant factor in adherence to self-management strategies, and makes interventions more relevant, meaningful, and helpful to Black women with hypertension. Based on these findings, she developed and tested a mobile application that provides blood pressure self-management education and promotes health information sharing. She uses established, engaging social media presence to deliver valuable health information, raise awareness, and empower individuals in cardiovascular health management. In addition, Dr. Jones’ work has been cited by scientists globally and used to guide the development of equity programs. Dr. Jones earned her BSN, MS, and PhD degrees from the University of Michigan and her Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Case Western Reserve University Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing.
