Laura Hays is an associate professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing and a clinical consultant to the Arkansas Department of Health Newborn Screening Program. She is an alumnus of the National Institutes of Health Summer Genetics Institute Training Program, is the President-Elect of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics (ISONG) and is a long-time member of ISONG’s Ethics and Public Policy Committee. Dr. Hays is a PhD-trained advanced practice registered nurse who focuses her work on reducing inequities in the delivery of genetic services. She is the Primary Investigator or Project Director of federally funded projects to expand services for families of infants diagnosed with rare genetic conditions both in her state and globally. She collaborates with colleagues across and beyond the United States to apply innovative solutions for improving and expanding our newborn screening capabilities, including ethical considerations and testing of whole genome sequencing and subsequent data storage and sharing. Dr. Hays received her PhD in nursing science, her master’s degree in nursing science and her bachelor’s degree in nursing science from the UAMS Graduate School and College of Nursing in Little Rock, Arkansas.
