Kimberly Powell

Kimberly Powell is an Associate Professor at the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing. Dr. Powell’s research focuses on applied informatics solutions to enhance quality of care for older adults. Dr. Powell contributes to improving care for vulnerable older adults in resource limited settings by leading an interdisciplinary research team focused on improving outcomes for nursing home residents, collaborating nationally and internationally with scientists, students, and industry leaders, and advocating for equitable allocation of resources and quality measures. Her work has led to the development of new knowledge and best practices for health data sharing, guidelines for telehealth use, and development of the first nursing home information technology maturity staging model. As an elected leader of the Nursing Informatics Working Group of the American Medical Informatics Association and a Betty Irene Moore Fellow for Nurse Leaders and Innovators, Dr. Powell amplifies nursing voices and employs innovative approaches to improve health and advance health equity. Dr. Powell earned her BSN from Purdue University, MSN from Spalding University, and PhD in Nursing from the University of Tennessee. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Aging, Informatics, and Quality Research at the University of Missouri.
