Kimberly Elgin serves is an Advanced Practice Provider Director at University of Virginia Health and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Virginia School of Nursing. As an experienced Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and advanced practice leader, Dr. Elgin’s primary area of impact is advocacy for expansion of Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) scope of practice. She fostered revisions to Virginia Code, removing system structural barriers to scope of practice, establishing credentialing and privileging processes, prescriptive authority, and innovative practice models impacting CNSs across the globe. She was awarded the 2022 National Magnet Nurse of the Year® for Structural Empowerment from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in recognition of this work. Dissemination of her work as a consultant, invited speaker, and author continue to inform practice for CNSs. Additionally, Dr. Elgin’s development of practice tools optimizing patient safety and scholarly work to enhance Advanced Practice Provider (APP) workforce resiliency has impacted patient and healthcare team outcomes worldwide. Dr. Elgin received her DNP from Old Dominion University, MSN from the University of Virginia, and BSN from the University of Delaware.
