Kathie Zimbro

Kathie Zimbro is a Research Scientist at the Ellmer School of Nursing at Old Dominion University. An experienced nurse executive and health services researcher, Dr. Zimbro has given voice and leadership to the growing knowledge base improving outcomes among vulnerable populations. An early nursing pioneer in the data science movement, her decades of scholarship and executive practice culminated in the development of an electronic endoscopy quality metrics library, tracking and enhancing patient outcomes and research. This ground-breaking research led to the design of the first gastroenterology quality registry, a national model for quality data submission, used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to drive national quality improvement. Her exceptional ability to foster collaboration among interdisciplinary teams, including national healthcare experts and thought leaders, has been instrumental in advancing initiatives for improving nursing work environments and patient outcomes. Dr. Zimbro’s work has left indelible marks on policies and practices at many health systems and academic institutions throughout the country. Dr. Zimbro earned her ADN from College of the Albemarle, and her BSN, MS, and PhD degrees from Old Dominion University.
