Julie Carbray is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Nursing at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) where she directs the Pediatric Mood Disorder Clinic, an outpatient multidisciplinary service that provides care for diverse urban youth with mood disorders. There, she oversees interdisciplinary training programs for clinicians nationally and internationally, helping teams implement evidence-based treatments for youth with mental illness in their own communities. Her scholarly work has advanced the understanding of pediatric mood disorders, including psychopharmacology, neurobiology, and family-centered interventions. Her research and clinical leadership has significantly influenced the field of child psychiatry, particularly in understanding and treating pediatric bipolar disorders. As the only nurse and full professor in the UIC College of Medicine, Dr. Carbray teaches psychopharmacology, child development, and mood disorders across disciplines. She has pioneered new roles for nurses in medical education and national professional organizations alike. She is widely recognized for her contributions to national and international presentations, podcasts, invited talks, and service on key interdisciplinary task forces. Her work continues to shape policy, practice, and education in youth mental health. Dr. Carbray earned her PhD and Master of Science degrees from Rush University and her Bachelor of Science from Purdue University.
