Ju Young Shin is a Professor at the University of Delaware School of Nursing. Dr. Shin's research has improved understanding of symptom management for Parkinson’s disease (PD) and highlighted the important role of family caregivers in PD care. Her work has been cited by researchers in over 30 countries, serving as a foundation for their research related to PD. Her recent studies also emphasize the vital role of unpaid family caregivers and the insufficient support for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias (ADRD). She is currently leading NIH-funded research focused on developing measures to evaluate the financial hardship experienced by individuals with ADRD and their families. This work aims to reduce the intergenerational financial burden associated with ADRD within the community. Dr. Shin also demonstrated leadership in gerontological nursing education. She has taught gerontological nursing components in nurse practitioner programs and co-authored the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association’s Toolkit of Gerontology Resources and the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence’s Gerontological Nursing Competencies for Entry-Level Professional Nursing. Dr. Shin earned her PhD from the University of Iowa College of Nursing and a Post-Graduate Adult Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Duke University.
