Jennifer Manning

Associate Dean

Jennifer Manning is the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Nursing Programs and Coordinator for the Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist Program at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans School of Nursing, also serving as a Clinical Nurse Researcher at East Jefferson General Hospital. Her career focuses on advancing the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) profession through policy, advocacy, education, and research. She championed CNS title protection laws and shaped health policy to expand CNS recognition and practice. Dr. Manning led a national advocacy strategy for CNS-led interventions, which stemmed from her evaluation of the Institute of Medicine's "Future of Nursing" report. She also established the National Association of Clinical Nurse Scientists (NACNS) National Research Priorities, providing evidence of the impact of CNS on patient outcomes. As former NACNS President, she enhanced CNS visibility and employment, aligned CNS competencies with educational standards, and co-authored crucial training guidelines. Her initiatives include launching a CNS podcast and mentoring emerging leaders, solidifying the CNS role in evidence-based practice and healthcare innovation. Dr. Manning holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Nursing Science, and Doctor of Nursing Science from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.
