Jennifer J. Coleman is a professor at the Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing at Samford University. Dr. Coleman teaches academic and clinical nurse educator courses in the doctoral program. Teaching responsibilities also include core courses in transition to professional nursing practice, ethical leadership and collaboration, nursing research, and evidence-based practice. She is a staff nurse at Children’s of Alabama and was inducted into the Alabama Nursing Hall of Fame. She is past president of the Birmingham Black Nurses Association where she mentors nursing students in academic and professional nursing issues, chairs the mentorship program, and serves as coach for the leadership academy. She has published research and secured diversity development grants to disseminate strategies for minority nursing students’ success. Dr. Coleman is regional coordinator and co-principal investigator of the National Black Nurses Association Mini Nurse Academy, a program focused on diversifying nursing by introducing nursing to third through sixth graders from populations traditionally underrepresented in nursing. The program has received over $834,000 and operates academies in 14 states. Over 300 elementary students have participated. Dr. Coleman earned a PhD from the University of Southern Mississippi, MSN from Samford University, and BSN from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
