Jean Edward is an Associate Professor and PhD Program Director at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, as well as a Betty Irene Moore Nurse Leaders and Innovators Fellow. She also serves as faculty lead for qualitative data services in the Markey Cancer Center’s Patient-Oriented and Population Sciences Shared Resource Facility. A nationally recognized cancer health services researcher, she is a leader in advancing health equity through innovative, multi-level strategies that address access, affordability, and outcomes for underserved populations. Working in the only NCI-designated cancer center in a rural state, Dr. Edward has secured over $4.9 million as PI/Co-I to conduct more than 20 studies that address barriers and improve access to care at the individual, systems, and policy levels. Her work applies mixed methods, interdisciplinary team science, and implementation science to design sustainable interventions that reduce cancer-related financial toxicity for pediatric, adolescent and young adult, and adult cancer survivors, and caregivers. Her research has been funded by the National Cancer Institute, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and American Cancer Society, among others. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, delivered over 90 national, regional, and local presentations, and is nationally recognized for her scholarship, leadership, and commitment to health equity. Dr. Edward holds a PhD from University of Louisville and a BSN from Bellarmine University.
