Jayna Moceri-Brooks is a Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University, Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Her research focuses on firearm injury prevention, blast-related traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and interventions to reduce suicide risk within military communities, with an emphasis on military culture. Drawing on her work with Combat Veterans through an organization she co-founded, she led a mixed-methods study that provided strong preliminary evidence for the first tangible suicide prevention intervention for post-9/11 Combat Veterans with TBI. She was also among the first to identify perceived institutional betrayal as a suicide risk factor within this population. Findings from her research have shaped federal policies aimed at reforming the care and recognition of service members with blast-related TBI. In collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams, she has led and co-authored publications in journals across psychology, medicine, and public health, and her work has been presented at national and international scientific conferences. In addition to her research and policy work, she has maintained her clinical practice as an Emergency Nurse for more than two decades. Dr. Moceri-Brooks is a member of the Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium at the Rockefeller Institute of Government and serves on the Massachusetts General Hospital advisory board for the ReBlast study. Dr. Moceri-Brooks earned her BSN from Seattle Pacific University, MN from the University of Washington, PhD from Duquesne University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center at Rutgers University.
