Esther Afolabi

Esther Kikelomo Afolabi is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Calvin University, where she teaches and conducts research in community/public health and maternal-child health nursing. Her scholarship focuses on cancer prevention, health systems strengthening, and culturally responsive reproductive health interventions for underserved populations. She has led and contributed to several national and international grants focused on cervical cancer screening, HPV vaccination, and mobile health (mHealth) innovations. Her efforts have helped establish community-based cancer screening centers and improve access to preventive care in resource-limited settings. Dr. Afolabi is a recipient of prestigious fellowships, including the CARTA Fellowship and the African Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowship. She has been recognized for her leadership in cancer care and health equity. In Nigeria, she served as a senior faculty member at Obafemi Awolowo University, contributing to national nursing education and policy through the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. She is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau, the Oncology Nursing Society, and the Gynecological Oncology Society of Nigeria. Dr. Afolabi holds a PhD and an MSc in Nursing from Obafemi Awolowo University, as well as an additional MSc in Maternal and Child Health Nursing from the University of Port Harcourt, and holds certifications in midwifery and public health nursing.
