Espen Gade Rolland, Associate professor at Lovisenberg diaconal University College in Oslo, and President of Norwegian Nurses Organisation’s Professional group in mental health and addiction (NNO-SPoR). As a mental health nurse in Norway for 24 years, he has served as nurse manager, training specialist, teacher and education programs developer. As President of the Norwegian Nurses Organization’s professional group in mental health and addiction (NNO-SPoR) for seven years and a national board member since 2012, he has contributed to organizational development and growth. Mr. Rolland’s leadership positively impacts mental health nursing education and policy in Norway and internationally. He’s worked with the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research for the successful launch of the masters Nursing program in mental health, substance use and addiction key to legitimizing advanced practice mental health nursing (APN) and greater access to care for this vulnerable population. As a member of the Interntional Council of Nursing’s (ICN) Expert Group for Mental Health, and ICN Certified Global Nurse Consultant, specialty: Leadership, Education and Mental Health Nursing, he collaborates in developing ICN documents, i.e. “The global mental health nursing workforce, Guidelines on mental health nursing, 2024” (one of five authors) and the WHO product “Pre-service education in mental healt” (launched April 2025). Mr. Rolland holds a Masters Degree in Nursing Science from the University of Oslo.
