Ellen M. Harvey is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Department of Surgery at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She has recognized expertise in neuroscience, trauma, critical and acute care. As an influential clinician and leader in multiple professional societies, Dr. Harvey’s interprofessional quality work and research have directly influenced nurse sensitive indicators and improved patient outcomes. Her contributions to advancing care of the injured patient are broad-scoped including development of evidence-based care protocols and high-quality trauma nursing education programs, each of which have been recognized for excellence and impact. Her scholarly work validates the essential role of the nurse in prevention of failure to rescue, the positive impact of TeamSTEPPS® interprofessional simulation-based training on performance and patient outcomes and the role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist in advancing evidence-based practice to improve healthcare efficiency and quality. As a community leader, Dr. Harvey promotes wellness as a regional animal-therapy non-profit board member and licensed animal therapy handler with her labrador Sheena. Dr. Harvey earned her BSN from University of Colorado, her MN from Emory University and her DNP from Radford University.
