Donna-Marie Palakiko

Donna-Marie Palakiko is a Native Hawaiian mother, health strategist, community-based researcher, nurse, and Associate Professor and Director of Cultural Innovation and Strategy at the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene. Dr. Palakiko has over 25 years of experience addressing health inequities among Native Hawaiians through health promotion and disease prevention programs, community-based participatory research, and workforce development. Her area of expertise and interest is to address social and cultural determinants of health among Indigenous and underserved communities through culturally safe health interventions and building a culturally mindful health workforce. Her current program of research addresses asthma inequities among Native Hawaiians and developing culturally responsible workforce. She serves on numerous boards including the American Public Health Association, National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurses Association, and Asian American Pacific Islander Nurses Association. Dr. Palakiko earned her BS from the University of San Francisco, MS, from the University of California San Francisco, and PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is a 2022 Fulbright Post-doctoral Fellow and a 2023 Fellow of LEADS and the UC Davis Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators.
