Debra Kosko is Assistant Dean for Evaluation and Outcomes at Georgetown University and a Family Nurse Practitioner whose scholarship, practice, and teaching is in the service of marginalized communities. While a fellow with the US Agency for International Development, Dr. Kosko was on the team that launched the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, resulting in the most successful global health program in history, saving 26 million lives across 55 countries. As co-founder and director of a HIV Program in Maryland, Dr. Kosko secured millions in NIH grants and developed clinical care models providing services for over 3,000 patients. These models led to pioneering work training healthcare providers in Africa, eastern Europe, Central America, and Caribbean and development of a HIV research capacity model for Africa. Dr. Kosko presented congressional testimony supporting bills protecting healthcare workers with HIV and served on the White House National AIDS Policy Council. Her leadership is evidenced as co-founder of American Council of Nurse Practitioners which later merged to create the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the singular voice for NPs with 120,000 members. Dr. Kosko holds DNP from George Washington University, MN from University of California, Los Angeles, and BSN from University of Texas at Austin.
