Daniel Terry

PhD, MBA, RN

Associate Professor in Nursing

University of Southern Queensland

Daniel Terry is an Associate Professor in Nursing at the University of Southern Queensland, with a distinguished track record in rural health, workforce development, and health equity. His research has informed global policy with the World Health Organization and the UK Government, particularly in rural workforce recruitment and retention. Dr. Terry leads the Community Apgar Program and the International Thrive Study in Australia, both of which address systemic workforce challenges that nurses and health services encounter. His work on health career trajectories, rural employment, workforce grit, and health equity among the Deaf exemplify his commitment to social justice. He had authored more than 130 publications and developed the Rural Nursing Workforce Hierarchy of Needs model, now used nationally and internationally. He has served as a rural hospital board director, chaired accreditation and medical consultative committees, and contributed to numerous academic and industry boards and ethics committees. He also mentors emerging researchers and contributes to curriculum innovation. Holding a PhD in Medical Science from the University of Tasmania, Dr Terry’s leadership, advocacy, and scholarship continue to drive meaningful change in healthcare access and outcomes, particularly for underserved and rural populations.
