Colleen Walsh-Irwin is the Associate Director for Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Nursing Services. Dr. Walsh-Irwin runs a national program assisting VA facilities to improve their evidence-based practice programs. She has been working to improve EBP in the VA and was a primary investigator on a study on EBP education that has been published. Dr. Walsh-Irwin and her team developed an EBP course that was piloted in three Veteran Integrated Service Networks (VISNs) and is be spread throughout the VA. She also led a team to develop an EBP Guidebook for the VA which will socialize a new EBP model that she created. Dr. Walsh-Irwin has been an adult nurse practitioner in cardiology for over 29 years and is a subject matter expert in dyslipidemia. She is an adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University School of Nursing. In addition to being a speaker locally, regionally and nationally, she is well published in nursing textbooks and peer reviewed journals. Dr. Walsh-Irwin has received numerous awards for nursing excellence and she earned her AAS from Nassau Community College and her BSN, MS and DNP from Stony Brook University in New York.
