Barbara Jacobs

Barbara Jacobs is a Nurse Clinical Ethicist for Hartford Healthcare a large system that includes six acute care hospitals. Dr. Jacobs is an Associate Professor-in-Residence at University of Connecticut’s School of Nursing, teaching ethics and nursing theory and is a published author in clinical ethics, nursing theory, trauma/emergency nursing and emergency medical services. Her book “Clinical Ethics Consultation Guide,” was published in 2020. She contributed to the launch of the first (currently functioning) Advanced Life Support EMS System for the City of Boston. Dr. Jacobs is a member of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities and the Emergency Nurses Association. She has two committee appointments from Connecticut’s Department of Public Health, one being the Committee for Medical Orders for Life-sustaining Treatment (MOLST). She has received awards from the Governor of Massachusetts, the National Emergency Nurses Association, the Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS), and the University of Connecticut. She received a baccalaureate degree in nursing from Georgetown University, a master’s degree in public health from Yale University, and PhD in nursing from the University of Connecticut. She completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University and is a member of the inaugural class of 136 certified healthcare ethics consultants.
