Andrea Knopp, Associated Directoro f Graduate Programs at James Madison University School of Nursing, is a global health leader whose research focuses on improving healthcare delivery in resource-limited settings and advancing the role of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in underserved areas. Her career began in rural Burkina Faso, where she served as a community health nurse, providing HIV education and care across 31 villages and launching a malaria medication program for remote populations unable to access centralized health services. Her HIV education and malaria initiatives impacted over 25,000 women, while her malaria program served more than 50,000 individuals. Her PhD research explored culturally sensitive Hepatitis C interventions among Zabbaleen women in Cairo, Egypt, aiming to improve health practices. She has also led educational and research initiatives in Tanzania and Ghana. In Tanzania, she mentored students, community health workers, and faculty in developing a diabetes education program tailored to communities with limited food and monitoring resources. Currently in Ghana, Dr. Knopp directs a global exchange program for graduate and undergraduate students, emphasizing community health experiences and geriatric care. Her work advances the global role of nurse practitioners and fosters international research collaboration. Dr. Knopp holds a Master of Public Health and Master of Science in Nursing from Emory University and earned her PhD from the University of Virginia.
