Alison Bradywood is the Executive Director at the Washington State Board of Nursing. Dr. Bradywood has led legislative efforts for APRN title protection and streamlining nursing assistant regulatory oversight. Her efforts have decreased barriers to licensure, provided mechanisms to support substance treatment, and addressed structural bias in nursing regulation to improve equity. Dr. Bradywood’s experience spans acute care, academia, long-term care, and community health settings. She worked at Virginia Mason Medical Center for 19 years, first as a nursing assistant and eventually as the Chief Nursing Officer. She has published several peer-reviewed articles on hospital quality, social determinants of health, and COVID-19 interventions. Dr. Bradywood is the past co-chair of the Washington Nurses Action Coalition working with community organizations to address social determinants of health and issues of healthcare inequity. She continues to volunteer locally supporting direct care delivery and abroad addressing healthcare system improvements in low- and middle-income countries. Her areas of expertise include quality improvement, health equity, leadership development, nursing practice, and workforce development. Dr. Bradywood earned her BA in Anthropology before transitioning to nursing to complete her BSN, MPH, and MN at the University of Washington, and her DNP at Vanderbilt University.
