The Honorable Gale Adcock, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN

State Representative NC-41, North Carolina House of Representatives 

Gale Adcock is a family nurse practitioner, writer, speaker and member of the NC House of Representatives. 
Adcock is a first-generation college graduate who worked her way through nursing school, from diploma program (Virginia Baptist Hospital) to BSN (East Carolina University) to MSN/FNP (UNC-Chapel-Hill).  Until her retirement from clinical practice in late 2020, she was Chief Health Officer for global software company SAS for 26 years, in charge of operations of the onsite health care center that delivered primary care to 14,000 employees and family members. 


Adcock is adjunct faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill, East Carolina, Duke, and Case Western Reserve. She enjoys talking with graduate students and practicing nurses about the opportunities for and the power of advocacy.

Adcock served as NCNA president, on the NC Board of Nursing, and chaired the NC Center for Nursing. She has served on five state boards and commissions, appointed by 3 different governors. She is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.

Adcock is in her fourth term in the NC House and is the only Advanced Practice Registered Nurse ever elected to the NC legislature. She is Deputy Leader of the House Democratic Caucus and serves on the Health, Appropriations, Commerce, Regulatory Reform and Rules committees. She has a reputation for working effectively across the aisle, a skill she attributes to her nursing background.
