Vicki L. Simpson
PhD, RN, CHES
Interim Associate Head, Associate Professor
Purdue University School of Nursing West Lafayette, Main Campus
Vicki L. Simpson’s research focuses on well-being and resilience for communities, practicing nurses, and nursing faculty and students. Her work spans Indiana, bridging the gap from bench to bedside to community. As an evaluator on several federally funded grants, her innovative use of social network analysis documents longitudinal changes in community networks. Lauded by grant funders and peers alike, it is a novel way to inform, evaluate, and sustain network development to achieve health equity. She is also involved in regional, national, and international efforts to study challenges faced by nurses and develop evidence-based strategies to enhance well-being and resilience. This widely disseminated work culminated in the 2023 release of a Wellness Toolkit at the Building Healthy Academic Communities National Conference. She continues to collaborate on an international study begun early in the COVID-19 pandemic. Encompassing five countries and more than 900 nurses, it culminated in one of the early publications documenting pandemic nursing experiences. Research findings have supported cross-cultural comparisons and development of tailored organizational and individual level strategies to enhance support and retention of nurses around the globe. Dr. Simpson earned her BSN and PhD (Health Promotion) from Purdue University, and an MSN in Community Health from Indiana University.
