Terri O. Fowler is an Associate Professor and the Associate Dean for Practice, Innovative Partnerships, and Advocacy at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing. Dr. Fowler’s primary area of impact is in addressing complex access challenges and disparate primary care outcomes for under-resourced populations. Her work focuses on implementing nurse-led academic-community partnerships that mitigate the limited resources of community safety-net sites to improve the culture of health. She has led collaborations with academic, community, and safety-net practice sites, developing nurse-led IP practice models that are replicable and sustainable to reduce inequities, increase access, and address complex healthcare challenges. Her work includes leading an IP team in sustaining a nurse-founded and led primary care, free clinic to reduce health inequities and improve care access and health outcomes. She has spearheaded the creation and execution of nurse-driven IP primary care models that consistently demonstrate improved outcomes for under-resourced populations and engage students in longitudinal clinical rotations for medically underserved communities. The models have been replicated and sustained across various practice settings and community partners. Dr. Fowler earned her DNP, MSN, and BSN from the Medical University of South Carolina and her BS from the College of Charleston.
