S. Raquel Ramos’ leading contributions have distinguished herself as a nationally recognized researcher and effective leader in the area of advancing health equity. Her pioneering work includes the development and testing of innovative, technology-driven, behavioral interventions designed by and for sexual minority men to provide education and skills specific to HIV prevention and prevention of HIV-related comorbid conditions. Dr. Ramos developed an e-Health Framework, which has been utilized widely within nursing, public health, medicine, and informatics. This framework laid the foundation for her NIH-funded clinical trial that uses a virtual environment for cardiovascular and metabolic disease prevention education, reaching ethnic and racial communities historically excluded from such trials. Dr. Ramos’ research has highlighted the roles of discrimination, intersectionality, and social determinants of health in the prevention of HIV and HIV comorbidities. Her outstanding contributions stem from over a decade of clinical practice and years of research and advocacy. Her work has yielded significant findings on the importance of preventative screenings in addressing HIV-related comorbidities that share risk factors, such as CVD, diabetes, and cancer. Dr. Ramos is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and the American Heart Association, an associate editor for the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care and Journal of Medical Internet Research. Her scholarship has been recognized through recent induction into Sigma Xi International Honor Society of Science and Engineering. Dr. Ramos was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Yale School of Nursing. She earned her PhD from Columbia University and her MSN, MBA, and BSN from Purdue University.
