Portia J. Jordan

Portia J. Jordan is a Professor and Executive Head of Department in Nursing and Midwifery at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Dr. Jordan drives practice changes by developing evidence-based practices (EBP) for implementing patient safety competencies throughout South Africa. As the sole South African leader in the International Network of Universities, Nursing Collaborative, she leads training initiatives to promote patient safety and cultural immersion experiences in health care in the United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, and Japan. She developed and led the first faculty training integrating EBP, patient safety, and simulation education into nursing schools in Zambia, Malawi, Lesotho, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Africa. Dr. Jordan was an advisor for the Minister of Health on COVID-19. She serves on the South African Nursing Council and Chair of the Education Committee providing her a voice in regulating nursing education and policy, accrediting nursing curricula, and advising the Minister regarding policy and amendments to the Nursing Act and regulations. She leads 22 universities as the chair of Forum for University Nursing Deans in South Africa. Dr. Jordan earned her PhD, MBA, MCur, BCur, Nursing Education and Nephrology degrees from Nelson Mandela University.
