Natasha Schaefer Solle is a Research Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Public Health Sciences at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Schaefer Solle’s research focuses on understanding cancer risk and health disparities among first responders. She has leveraged nursing science to drive change and improve health of high-risk worker groups. As Deputy Director of the Firefighter Cancer Initiative (FCI), she has established a robust program of research and service focusing on cancer screening, education and survivorship. Dr. Schaefer Solle’s research on women’s health and cervical cancer risk in relationship to occupational exposures has led to the development of a statewide women’s cohort with focus on exposure, fertility and hormonal changes. Additionally, she has created and disseminated a cancer prevention curriculum for firefighters at the state and national level including didactic modules and resources for on-scene decontamination practices, driving state and national policy change. Dr. Schaefer Solle’s research has strategically aligned with her leadership role at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center as the Assistant Director of the Behavioral and Community-based Research Shared Resource (BCSR). In her role, she has helped develop and expand this critical resource which supports investigators conducting a broad array of cancer research in diverse, multi-cultural populations. Dr. Schaefer Solle received her BS from Wake Forest University, BSN and PhD from the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies, MSN from University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed her Postdoctoral training at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
