Martha J. Todd
PhD, APRN-NP
Professor
Creighton University College of Nursing
Martha J. Todd is a Professor at Creighton University and serves as the O’Brien Endowed Chair in the Health Sciences. Dr. Todd’s primary area of impact is in educational research in the assessment of student performance. She envisioned a creative process for assessment that led to the development of competency-based evaluation instruments to assess student performance in traditional and simulated clinical environments. Their research team developed and psychometrically tested the Creighton Simulation Evaluation Instrument (C-SEI), the Creighton Competency Evaluation Instrument (C-CEI) and the newly revised CCEI 2.0. These instruments have been widely accepted with sustained use in nursing education and are currently being used in 50 states and 32 countries, with translations in eight languages. In addition, the CCEI has been used in two studies by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing which has impacted educational policies. Dr. Todd also developed a nurse-practitioner-led free clinic for underserved populations. Through interprofessional collaboration, this clinic now spans across five health professions of faculty and students to provide more equitable and accessible care for the community. Dr. Todd received her BSN from Wichita State University, her MS from Creighton University, and her PhD in Nursing from South Dakota State University.
