Lisa A. Wiese is an Associate Professor at the Florida Atlantic University Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. As a certified Rural Health Nurse, Dr. Wiese is focused on decreasing Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia risk in under resourced settings. This includes leading a team, supported by NIH, of eight investigators from across the country to examine the impact of environmental and social factors on cognitive decline in rural regions. Dr. Wiese launched the Rural Health Disparities workgroup of the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment. In recognition of her community-engaged research, Dr. Wiese was selected to join IMPACT-AD. She contributed to the Florida’s State Health Improvement Plan and statute mandating caregiver education (Alzheimer’s and Related Forms of Dementia Education and Training Act). Her novel “Basic Knowledge of Alzheimer’s Disease” measure was selected for inclusion in the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center Toolkit. She is a Hartford Institute of Gerontological Nursing Distinguished Educator. The construct of determining “What Matters Most”, from Boykin and Schoenhofer Nursing as Caring framework, guides Dr. Wiese’s work. Dr. Wiese holds a BSN and MSN from the University of Virginia, Doctorate from Florida Atlantic University, and post-graduate certificate from Drexel University.
