Juliana N. Souza-Talarico

Juliana N. Souza-Talarico focuses on understanding and preventing Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). Her research aims to uncover mechanisms accelerating dementia, create culturally sensitive screening tools, and support evidence-based prevention practices. With funding from national and international sources, her notable findings highlight the link between psychosocial stress, biological responses, and cognitive decline in adults. Thanks to dissemination efforts by Dr. Souza-Talarico, the scientific community, and nation now recognize the impact of lifestyle and environmental factors on cognitive health and their role in the risk and progression of ADRD. With a strong academic international partnership, Dr. Souza-Talarico has formed global partnerships to advance dementia prevention. She is a strong advocate for Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in dementia research and emphasizes culturally sensitive approaches for underrepresented communities. Recognized with awards and leadership roles by prestigious organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association and the International Indigenous Dementia Research Network (IIDRN), Dr. Souza-Talarico’s work is pivotal in redefining nursing roles in dementia prevention and care. Her efforts highlight the importance of community engagement and culturally tailored strategies in reducing ADRD inequalities globally.
