Joni M. Brady is Inova Health’s Clinical Enterprise Division of Nursing Professional Practice surgery service line educator with the responsibility to lead onboarding and annual education for approximately 600 nurses practicing in 16 perianesthesia units. She restructured the perianesthesia nurse onboarding and annual education process to promote competency across all perianesthesia practice phases using a tiered skills development model, ultimately presenting the specialty practice work exemplar to international colleagues in Amsterdam last year. Her scholarly nursing contributions influence perianesthesia patient care through numerous publications and the delivery of regional, national and international education aimed to empower clinicians in practice. As Chair of the International Collaboration of PeriAanesthesia Nurses (ICPAN) Board of Directors, Dr. Brady’s leadership toward the implementation of an innovative, culturally inclusive perianesthesia nursing training model in low-middle income countries can assure health equity through transnational nursing workforce training and professional development that builds workforce capacity and advances the World Health Organization’s goal for universal health care coverage. Dr. Brady earned a DNP in Nursing Administration degree at George Mason University and holds board certification in ambulatory perianesthesia and pain management nursing.
