Jill Demirci is an Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Her significant contributions in research, education, and service have shaped advancements in lactation/breastfeeding support for birthing people worldwide, expanding understanding of understudied breastfeeding problems, including insufficient milk supply. She developed, tested, and disseminated research involving innovative, models of breastfeeding support including antenatal milk expression education, telelactation, and text message-based interventions. This has advanced the field toward personalized, preventative lactation support. Her research in prenatal lactation support and barriers to breastfeeding among late preterm parent-infant dyads has informed national/international breastfeeding support position statements and clinical guidelines. She created a nationally-disseminated equity-based lactation education program for undergraduate nursing students. She is currently a contributing editor at the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing and the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Human Lactation. She is a founding board member of the Human Milk Science Institute & Biobank in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Demirci received her BSN, MSN, and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh.
