She has received more than $8 million in grant funding and currently leading 2 NIH interdisciplinary funded research studies that test and implement complementary and integrative therapies (i.e., acupuncture) to alleviate cancer-related symptoms among medically underserved breast cancer survivors and use multi-omics approach to understand the effect and mechanism of acupuncture. Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine has greatly advanced the mechanistic understanding of acupuncture and the identification of novel biomarkers for personalized acupuncture approaches to symptom management. Through pioneering work in acupuncture, she has been recognized as a consultant for the Illinois Joint Task Force of the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois Society of Acupuncturists, specifically addressing Medicaid Reimbursement for Acupuncture.
