Holly K. Shaw is an expert providing state-of-the-art trauma intervention and broadening the capacity of nurses to promote resilience, solidarity, and strengthened advocacy, the trajectory of her impact has traversed academia, advocacy, policy, and practice. At the United Nations System, Dr. Shaw represents ICN and integrates the voice of nursing science, wisdom, and integrity through leadership and partnership, developing programs to address complex issues, chairing committees, and providing education and consultation to UN diplomats, staff, and Civil Society leaders. Assisting organizations, including the University of Minnesota, the first School of Nursing to obtain accreditation with the UN, hosting over a thousand nurses, faculty, and students at Headquarters, and creating opportunities for nurse experts to engage as presenters, thought leaders, change agents, and advocates for science-informed, person-centered policies, Dr. Shaw promotes the nursing profession among ambassadors and high-level government leaders. By highlighting nurses’ robust capacities and their imperative to transcend politics in the service of humanity, she has strived to create a coherent, sustainable, nursing presence that facilitates growth at the UN and has a resounding impact throughout the world.
Dr. Shaw earned a BSN at Boston University, MSN and PhD at Adelphi University, and master’s Certificate in Global Mental Health: Trauma and Recovery, Harvard Medical School.
